Environmental Education: Saving Our Sharks seeks to change the perception of sharks and raise awareness through environmental education. We have a multigenerational, intersectoral, and cross-cutting program that addresses topics such as marine conservation, responsible consumption, heritage management, equity, and citizen participation in support of achieving multiple sustainable development goals. Want to be part of our environmental education campaigns? CONTACT US. Formal Education: As part of its environmental education agenda, Saving Our Sharks AC conducts activities with elementary, middle, and high schools to inform and promote shark protection and raise awareness about the challenges they face worldwide and the importance of implementing good practices and consumption habits at the personal, household, and community levels. Community Service and University Conferences We carry out awareness projects, community service initiatives, and tourism training programs at universities with programs in alternative tourism, biology, and related fields. These activities with students aim to highlight the benefits of sustainable tourism, emphasizing the importance of non-extractive use of natural resources as a conservation measure. Social Interventions National Shark Month Since 2021, we have held Shark Month annually, and in 2025, it was consolidated as a national event in partnership with SEMA Quintana Roo, coinciding with July 14th, International Shark Day. This initiative of Saving Our Sharks, with over 116 partners, is dedicated to promoting awareness, education, and conservation of sharks through workshops, conferences, and talks led by national and international experts. Training, Workshops, and Conferences: Through collaborative efforts, we organize and promote conferences, training sessions, and conventions with researchers in public institutions (lifeguard services, civil protection, CONANP) and private institutions (training for hotels, diving centers, the fishing sector, among others). Congresses and Conventions: We participate annually in the organization of the Latin American Congress of Sharks, Chimeras, and Rays, organized by the Mexican Society of Cartilaginous Fishes (SOMEPEC). Audiovisual Productions and Screenings: In conjunction with governments, socially responsible companies, educational institutions, and organizations focused on culture and ecology, we produce informational and educational materials focused on shark conservation. We also conduct screenings of internationally recognized documentaries and materials related to marine conservation and responsible consumption. Puppet Theater: We carry out artistic interventions with local artistic companies, such as the "La Bambalina" Theater Group, who have brought a message of awareness to theaters, parks, schools, and planetariums through their conscious art, working from the ground up, promoting values that support the conservation of sharks, ecosystems, and the common good.
