What is the “Adopt a Shark” program?
The program “Adopt a Shark”Adopt a Shark,” from the Saving Our Sharks Foundation, offers a meaningful and educational way to contribute to marine conservation in the Mexican Caribbean. Through different adoption levels, participants, called Shark Heroes (Shark Heroes) not only support shark research and protection, but also receive exclusive benefits that connect them directly with these majestic predators.
Who can adopt?
This program allows individuals, families, schools, and businesses to symbolically adopt a shark, thereby funding essential research and conservation projects carried out by Saving our Sharks. Adoptions help strengthen the foundation's research capacity, which uses satellite tagging techniques to understand the lifestyle and movements of sharks throughout the Caribbean region and beyond. This also supports environmental education projects with the community and government.

Adoption levels and benefits
Saving our Sharks offers several levels of adoption, each with specific benefits:
- Shark Supporter / Shark Follower ($5 USD/month): Monthly contribution that includes a digital color photo of a tagged shark, a personalized adoption certificate, and a social media badge.
- Shark Friend / Shark Friend ($25 USD): One-time contribution that provides a personalized adoption certificate, digital photo of the adopted shark, inclusion of the name on the Adoption Wall, and a 10% discount code on foundation merchandise.
- Shark Guardian / Guardian Shark ($75 USD): It includes all the above benefits, plus access to track the shark online and a 15% discount code on merchandise.
- Shark Protector / Shark Protector ($150 USD): In addition to the above benefits, this level includes an adoption kit with a Shark Hero Foundation cap and t-shirt.
